South Devon based acoustic guitarist Phil Berthoud has been playing for over 35 years. At first, he was inspired by rock and pop music of the 60s, 70s and 80s, but other styles occasionally filtered through – via his parent’s album of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, a performance in his home town of Flamenco virtuoso Paco Pena, a second-hand album of acoustic blues recordings.
At the age of 14, Phil got his first guitar, along with “The Complete Guitar Player” by Russ Shipton, and he never looked back. Over the years Phil would absorb many styles and take up other instruments – such as Irish fiddle, jazz, classical, blues, fingerstyle guitar, mandolin, folk, 4 string banjo, ukulele and world music.
Phil has also taught countless students to play guitar, has written many music instruction books and has performed regularly over the last 30 years.
He brings this wealth of experience to his live performing; enhancing weddings, parties and other events with laid back atmospheric instrumental music, as well as more lively arrangements of rock and pop songs.
“Just want to thank you for your amazing playing last Saturday night. You really made it a special evening with such beautiful music thank you so much. We will be sure to recommend you to everyone we know”
Sonja and Massimo – Private party review
“Thank you so much Phil for your excellent playing throughout the ceremony and Wedding Breakfast for our wedding on 30th April at the Headland Hotel. It was lovely to have background music and all our guests loved your performance… even playing ‘name that tune’ on their tables. You kindly researched and played music from artists we said we liked and we really appreciated your attention to detail for our request .. we can’t thank you enough for helping making our day so special .. we would thoroughly recommend anyone looking for a wedding performer to contact you .. thank you once again”
